Feed the Birds
Performed by: Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews)
Written by: Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman
Early each day to the steps of Saint Paul's
The little old bird woman comes.
In her own special way to the people she calls,
"Come, buy my bags full of crumbs.
Come feed the little birds, show them you care
And you'll be glad if you do.
Their young ones are hungry,
Their nests are so bare;
All it takes is tuppence from you."
Feed the birds, tuppence a bag,
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag.
"Feed the birds," that's what she cries,
While overhead, her birds fill the skies.
All around the cathedral the saints and apostles
Look down as she sells her wares.
Although you can't see it, you know they are smiling
Each time someone shows that he cares.
Though her words are simple and few,
Listen, listen, she's calling to you:
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag,
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag."
Seeds and Grains for Birds
Black-oil sunflower
The most common type of seed offered at feeders in North America is black-oil sunflower seed. This small sunflower seed is high in energy and has thin shells, making it the preferred food item for a wide variety of birds. Black-oil sunflower is among the favorite feeder foods of cardinals, chickadees, finches, and sparrows. Woodpeckers even consume these seeds on occasion.

Millet
A small, round grain, millet is commonly found in seed mixes. Millet is a favored food of many smaller, ground foraging birds. A handful of millet sprinkled on the ground will keep your juncos and sparrows happy.

Of course, your child already knows that many of the birds with the coming of autumn fly to warmer climes. But no harm will be once again to remember it.
Talk to your child about the birds that remain were winter.
Better yet, try to see them and for them to watch. First of all, it is the ubiquitous bi-scrying. Sparrow flocks can be seen on leafless bushes and trees almost always.
Teach the poem:
What I love the sparrow?
For what he is, like me:
When the advent of cold weather,
No flies anywhere.
(Levin)
Titmouse brisk - too frequent guests. They feed mainly on insects, which pulled out of the cracks in the bark. See how titmouse scurry up and down the trunks in search of insects. Watch with crumbs of crows and magpies. These birds are omnivorous: and eat insects, and corn, and all kinds of food waste-dy.
Birds-nevelichkam that remained to winter with us, we have not sweet. Still not easy to get to the food - it is often hidden beneath the ice and snow. And in the winter it is very cold, and the bird needs more food than in the summer.
If your child does not know or rusty about the pain-xoy benefits of the birds, tell him how titmouse and other small tree-saving Birdie vya from harmful insects. The more birds in the forest or in the garden, the more whole trees.
Explain the crumbs that winter birds do not die from the cold and hunger. After all, well-fed bird will not freeze even in the bitter cold. And if you are with your child make and hang in the park, in the woods near the house or bird feeder, you will not only be able to watch the birds, but also to do good and necessary work.
.
What is to treat the birds? Best treat - sunflower and pumpkin seeds. You can sprinkle the crumbs of white bread. Such a treat like any birds. All sorts of cereals (wheat, oats, millet, etc.) attract, most likely, only sparrows. Bullfinches like rowan berries and elderberries. Tits can treat pieces of unsalted fat or meat. Just do not put the bacon on the table right - utaschat crows. Hang it on threads or wires to the branches of trees. So grab a fat crow difficult, titmouse poklyuet, clinging to a piece of paws.
Who can be found at the trough? If it hangs in the yard near the house, the main your guests will sparrows and titmouse. In the dining room a forest can not only welcome all kinds of tits and woodpeckers, and comple-zen. Birds are very quickly get used to the feeder and visited by there all the time.
If you walk around every day with your child about the same time, try to conduct such an experiment. Every day at certain hours poured into the feeder food. And very soon you will notice that the birds know the lunch and gather at the trough "on time", waiting for treats. Sometimes all at once flies flock, and sometimes a few sparrows scouts. Child on-banker will appreciate the ability to observe the Perna-tact and manners during lunch. Accustomed to peo-dyam, the birds will keep away you get close enough. Only act to be very, very quiet.
