DDITIONAL HELP FOR THE HOMELESS
As the thermometer in Prague dipped to a record breaking -19.1 C (-2 F) early Friday morning, at least 5 homeless people died. This kind of cold is a major inconvenience for us but a potentially deadly situation for the homeless in Prague.
Thanks to an outpouring of generosity from readers of CzInfoNet and their networks, dozens of blankets, sleeping bags, and items of clothing have been donated to the Naděje Center near the main train station in Prague. Naděje is a drop in center where the homeless can come and stay out of the cold. They are open 24/7 during this freeze but do not have capacity for many people. Blankets and warm, winter clothes are being distributed as fast as they come in by terrain workers and the need is still great.
Jaroslava Zemanová, the director of the center, has added a special call for socks and men’s underwear.
