Learning new language - Course or Online Tutor?
Hi All,
I appreciate this is in English, and thats the whole point. Whats the best way to learn Russian? Is it find a course or use online tutors, expirience so far has not shown good results for online tutors. I am sure there are many good Tutors but for me, finding them has proven difficult. As for courses so far there are not many in my area that I can accommodate in my schedule.
I want to learn the language for conversational purposes, using online websites is all very good but their use is limited when not exposed to the language, some may find that ok but for me its diffcult.
I have opportunity for work and it would involve learning the language which is great but finding the best way im not sure. Any advice would be greatly recieved.

Hi,if you need to learn the language for conversational purpose then surely you have to learn it working with dialogues and texts of all kinds,very fast way to learn is to study ready made phrases and sentences,it is also important listen to the language alot,because you need not only to speak but also understand,it means usage of certain materials.Personal tutor is the best way,and a lot of work with the language at home repeating phrases and sentences.Sorry if any mistakes ).Russian language is rather difficult because of many reasons,words change,there are endings,different alphabet and so on.The fastest way I would think to learn ready made phrases to use them.

Hi,
Thank you for your response, yes, i agree with what you have said. I have now found two tutors online (Skype) and had lesson today and think I have found a good tutor, which is great! The second part is getting exspoure to the language, this is my next task, I know I wont understand right now but I think from what I have now read that listening to the langage gets your brain used to it more and will help later with learning.

May be to find a good friend who could help you a bit,is also good,and watch tv ,movies and different programs.

Well, the best way would be full-immersion. ( if you have a chance of spending,say 2-3 months in Russian speaking environment). However this might be tricky. What about trying to immolate such situation? get cable Russian TV, read as much as possible ( when I was learning German I was reading Harry Potter in German). if you have any Russian speaking friends/colleagues try speaking Russian with them.

Thank you, each comment has been useful. I have tutor now and next thing for me to do is as you say, watch, listen and read Russian although the reading would take for ever for me right now. Russian TV is a nice thought, quite obvious really, missed that I will search internet for Russian articles and programs this is great.
